Summary: Lodi Unified has utilized APEX Learning courses for many years for our credit recovery and summer school coursework. To prepare for the challenges imposed by COVID-19, as well as to improve distance learning, hybrid learning, and in-person options for students, new funding options will allow Lodi USD to mitigate learning challenges, close learning gaps, and increase opportunities for students to take a variety of courses. The 210 APEX courses, 81 of which are UC A-G approved, open a multitude of options for students in both the in-person and distance learning models. The APEX contract will provide all secondary students (7th-12th grade) access to all courses. The courses can support the effort to develop a long-term distance learning option. The unlimited access license replaces the previous annual expense for a limited number of student licenses (approximately $60,000), providing more flexibility and options for summer school, Independent Study, additional electives, and would be a possible safety net for scheduling conflicts. APEX courses are still scheduled with a Lodi USD teacher as the teacher of record. Unlimited access to the APEX California course list for secondary students will provide flexibility and options in uncertain times.
Funding: Learning Loss Mitigation Funds
Recommendation: Approve the agreement with APEX Learning for all students in grades 7-12 to have access to APEX's complete California Course List (210 Courses). 81 courses are UC A-G approved.
